A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said:
““I am ruined… I have broken my fast in Ramadan (intentionally).” The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Can you free a slave?” He said, “No.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Can you fast for two consecutive months?” He said, “No.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Can you feed sixty poor people?… ” (Sahih al-Bukhari)

- Kaffarah is due upon a person who deliberately breaks a fast in Ramadan without a valid excuse.
- If multiple fasts were broken on different days, Kaffarah is paid for each broken fast.
- The original expiation is to fast for 60 consecutive days.
- If a person is unable to do so due to illness or old age, they must feed 60 poor people.
- This calculator is based on the cost of feeding 60 people for each broken fast. At £5 per person, this equals £300 per broken fast.
